Zhang Siying, a noted expert in the field of Automatic Control, graduated from Wuhan University in 1948, came to the Northeast Institute of Technology (now the Northeastern University) as a teacher in 1949. From Sep. 1957 to Jul. 1959, he further studied in the field of Automatic Control Theory at Mosco University. He was promoted as Professor in 1978 and became doctoral student advisor since 1983.

He was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1997.
