The Shenyang Red River Technical Training Centre (SRRC) was officially opened on June 10, 1998 in the city of Shenyang, Liaoning province, China. This international Training Centre is a joint-venture between the Shenyang Institute of Engineering (formerly the Shenyang Electric Power Institute, SEPI for short) and RED RIVER COLLEGE (RRC) of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. The Centre occupies newly renovated teacher accommodation and classroom/laboratory facilities on the main campus of the Shenyang Electric Power Institute in the centre of Shenyang.
The Centre, which is administered by an efficient and supportive Chinese staff, offers both full and part time classes by qualified and dedicated language teachers from English speaking Countries, primarily Canada, U.S.A and England. SRRC is an English Language Training Institute located on the campus of SEPI. They have recently opened a new campus location in the heart of downtown Shenyang. Over the past five years the administrative staff of SRRC have spent time training at Red River College in Winnipeg. The most recent visitor was Philip Qin, an SRRC Curriculum Development Manager, in the spring of 2002. Philip worked with the curriculum resource team at the Red River College Language Training Centre, took courses and seminars in teacher training and professional development, and spent time recruiting new Canadian instructors to teach English at SRRC.
The Centre sits on the campus of SEPI in a recently renovated western style building of three stories, which combines classrooms, offices, and teachers'apartments. The new downtown campus opened in October 2002. Both campuses are equipped with multi-media teaching aids, on-line computers, and the latest IT equipment. A wide range of methods combined with audiovisual material is used. In many classrooms teachers use seminar seating to facilitate oral communication and discussion.
Students come to SRRC to develop their study skills and their English language in all areas: listening, speaking, reading and writing. A majority of SRRC students prepare themselves to international study. SRRC has its alumni all over the world.
The Centre provides spacious and comfortable living quarters that are serviced by the friendly cleaning staff. Social activities and cultural visits are often organized for the entertainment of the foreign teachers. The English speaking Chinese staff strives conscientiously to assist the teachers in meeting the new challenges they encounter due to cultural differences and different working environment.
