Shenyang International School is a JK-12 international school managed by International Schools of China (ISC), a growing network of international schools in mainland China. Shenyang International School (SYIS) offers an English-language based junior kindergarten through grade 12 program for expatriate students of all religions, races, and national backgrounds except where prohibited by law.
SYIS uses a North American curriculum and system of instruction that is college preparatory in both scope and level of difficulty. We seek to provide an educational experience that integrates a Judeo-Christian world view with a rigorous academic program. SYIS is more than just a school; it is a partnership with parents to provide quality education for young minds.
SYIS is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). WASC is an accrediting organization based in Burlingame, California, USA.
Shenyang International School is a member of the International Schools of China and the Liaoning American Chamber of Commerce.
Educational Philosophy
Shenyang International School exists to provide an excellent academic program within a college preparatory course of study. We attempt to meet all educational needs of those students that are admitted into our program.
We believe in operating an educational program based on biblical principles open to students irrespective of race, color, or creed.
We believe that the primary responsibility for education rests upon parents. The school should assist families in helping their children develop a profound sense of their own worth and identity.
We believe that education should be broad-based, providing student opportunities in basic core subject areas and as many supplementary enrichment areas as feasible.
As part of this community, Shenyang International School will actively benefit the citizens and government of Shenyang through educational programs and community service.
School History
When SYIS began in the fall of 1998, there were 18 students in first through sixth grade. By the year's end the school had grown to over 30 students with three teachers. The school was located on the third floor of Liaoning Vocational School and consisted of 4 classrooms, a large multipurpose room, two offices, a lobby and restrooms.
A growing student population necessitated that the school relocate. In August of 2000, the school grew to over 70 students and moved to the Dongling District. In the spring of 2005 the school grew to over 150 students.
Due to continued growth, SYIS has moved to Shenyang's SuJiaTun District where larger facilities have been acquired.
SYIS is the largest international school in Shenyang and the only one to offer a fully American curriculum, Junior Kindergarten - grade 12, taught solely in English.

The School Year
The school year generally starts in the middle of August and ends at the beginning of June. It is divided into two semesters of two quarters each. There are approximately 175 school days on the school calendar. Generally two weeks are provided at Christmas and the Chinese New Year as well as assorted breaks and holidays throughout the year.
The school board may add any days missed due to emergencies or unforeseen circumstances to the end of the school year.
Facilities
SYIS has recently aquired new facilities located in the SuJiaTun district of Shenyang, China. Our new facility will allow us to better accommodate our growing student body. We are very excited to start our 2005-2006 school year with not only more classroom space but also a better environment for outdoor activities as well as indoor physical education and sports facilities nearby.
