It is situated in the political, economic, cultural, and communication center of Northeast China. To the east of the institute is Beiling Park, a famous scenic spot in Shenyang, and to the south are the relics of Ancient Xinle Civilization, which can be traced back to 5,200 BC.

SYIAE covers an area of 267,000 square meters, with the buildings accounting for 20,600 square meters. The institute has a faculty of 1425, more than 200 of them holding advanced degrees in technical or professional fields.
