Shenyang Ligong University (Shenyang University of Science and Technology), founded in 1954, was formerly the Shenyang Institute of Technology belonging to the China Arms Industry General Corporation, and now administered by the Liaoning Province from 1999, it got this name in 2004 and moved to a new campus in Hunnan New Zone. The University is composed of 5 parts: the Hunnan main campus, the north campus, Fushun campus, the Science and Technology park and the Tieling Shooting Field, covering a total area of 1.6M square meters with a construction area of 473000 square meters. The main campus in Hunnan New Zone is a newly build environmental-friendly campus with digital and modern equipments.

Shenyang Ligong University is recognized by government, industry and academia for the high quality of its several programs in engineering education. The long-term goal of the institute is to become a center of excellence in the training and development of high-qualified engineers and technicians. The current programs in engineering have been developed over several years and today offer state-of-the-art study in the technology sciences. The content of these programs and the delivery of instruction are an advanced training model offering a combination of engineering education with engineering training-theory and the application of that theory. The institute is widely recognized for the advances which it has made in the design and implementation of high-quality programs in engineering education and training, and serves as a model for other such programs in engineering education.

The university attaches great importance to educational internationalization and extensively develops national-international educational and academic exchanges. It has established friendly cooperative relations with universities and enterprises in different countries such as Germany, the USA, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, Finland, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, etc.. Every year, well-known experts and scholars come go give lectures or to engage in joint projects of scientific research at our institute. At the same time, our excellent middle/ young teachers and students are selected to do higher studies and research abroad.

The university is engaged in basic research and in cooperative research with industry. This cooperative research with industry serves to satisfy these goals, namely, the acquisition of additional funding for its own research programs, the development of new products for industry, and as a factor allowing the university to continue to attract first-class teaching faculty and to acquire specialized research equipment. Currently, there are 19 institutions for scientific research. Among them, 3 institutions belong to the Ministry of National Industry, i.e. Research Center for Machine-tool and Production Engineering, Research Center for Lubrication Technology and Research Center for Bar Code Technology Application and Development; 2 belong to the Liaoning Province, i.e. High-speed Turning Engineering Technology Center and Advanced Manufacture Technology and Productivity Promotion Center; and 14 belong to SIT, i.e. Modern Manufacturing Technology Research Institution, CAD/CAM Technology Research and Development Center, Automation Research Institution, Automatic Detection and Control Research Institution, Intelligent System Engineering Research Institution, Computer New-High Technology Research Institution, Computer Communication and Network Research Institution, New-thought Multi-medium Technology Institution, Precision Machine Research Institution, Environmental Engineering Research Institution, Found Research Institution, New Materials Research Institution, Applied Fine Chemistry Research Institution and Economy Research Institution.

In recent years, the university has undertaken many major projects of scientific research which are funded by the state, ministry and province or which belong to the National Natural Science Fund and Enterprise Entrustment. Several of the scientific research projects have received the Award for Scientific Innovation, the Award for Scientific Advancement and the Award for Scientific Tremendous Achievements, honors which have been granted by the state, ministry or province. In March, 1993 the institute was chosen as one of 100 nationwide units authorized by the state to enjoy the privilege of import-export trade and in May, 1993 was approved to be a Torch-Type Institute of Science Research by the municipal government.

Shenyang Ligong University is in step with the times. Since its founding, more than 34,000 high-technical and administrative personnel have been trained and can be found in various large enterprises, educational units and scientific research institutions. Many of them have become the backbone of the profession and administrative intermediate forces. The institute is respectfully accorded the title of the Cradle of Engineers.
