Tieling is located in the northern part of Liaoning province. To the south lies Shenyang, and to the west is Inner Mongolia. The area under the jurisdiction of Tieling is 13,000 square kilometers and includes two districts, two cities and three counties. In this area there are 108 towns and villages. Tieling has several ethnic groups represented. Among these are Han, Mongolian, Manchu, Hui, Xibo, Uygur and Russian. At the end of 2001 the population was 2,989,000 with 913,000 in urban areas.
Tieling is well known as the hometown of Zhao Benshan, one of China's most famous comedians. It is also known as "The Hometown of the Red Mansion Culture", "The Hometown of Stage Drama Art", and "The Hometown of Coal and Electrical Energy."
Tieling Reservoirs Scenic Area
Located at the eastern part of Qing district, Tieling city, the tourist area is built around Qinghe reservoir, which is 40 kilometers away from Tieling city hall.
The Qinghe reservoir which was built in 1958 is one of seven famous large reservoirs with water storage capacity of 971million cubic meters. There are around 30 different attractions of natural beauty in the area which are worth going.
