Geographical and Population
Yingkou lies on the east bank of Bohai Bay and in the middle of the Liaodong peninsula. It is 180 kilometers to Shenyang in the North and about the same to Dalian in the South. Yingkou is the second largest port city in Liaoning province. There are four districts and two counties under its jurisdiction with a population of 2.2 million (urban population of 700,000). The total area of Yingkou is 5,402 square kilometers with a coastline of about 90 kilometers.

Resources
Yingkou is adjacent to the Liaohe oil field to the north. Its surrounding areas have rich oil and natural gas deposits. Refined oil and gas can be transferred to the Yingkou New Port through two pipelines.
There are 32 kinds of metal and non-metallic minerals being explored in the Yingkou area. The magnesium deposits are the largest with talcum, boron, and gold mines among the other important minerals. Offshore salt production is 800 thousand tons a year, which makes Yingkou one of the top four salt producers in China.

Agriculture
Agriculture is also an important sector in Yingkou. There are many kinds of rice, fruits, aquatic products, and fresh water resources, which meet requirements for industrial and residential use. Growing vegetables, flowers, and fruits in greenhouses during the winter gives local farmers extra income.

Harbors
Yingkou has two port terminals. The old river port has an annual handling capacity of 2.5 million tons. Yingkou New Port located in the south part of Yingkou is one of the top ten seaports in China. The annual handling capacity of the port has reached 20 million tons. An automobile berth has been put into operation as well.  After the completion of its third phase, the annual handling capacity in Yingkou New Port should reach 50 million tons. That would make Yingkou New Port one of the most important seaports in the Northeast Asian Economic area.  Yingkou New Port has opened regular container cargo lines to Hong Kong, Japan (Tokyo, Nagoya, Yokohama, Kobe, Osaka, Moji, Yokkaichi), South Korea, South America, South Africa, and others.

Industry
The main industries include textiles, machinery, metallurgy, electronics, chemistry, building materials, medicine, paper products, and pianos.  There are more than 1700 kinds of products manufactured by over 300 factories. About 200 kinds of products are exported to nearly 50 countries and regions around the world. Investors from 30 countries and regions have invested in Yingkou.

Lengyan Temple

Located on Minzhu Street in Yingkou, the temple was built from 1922-1931.
It is one of the four largest Buddhism temples in Northeast China. Master Jueguang, the President of Hongkong Buddhism Society, has often come back to Yingkou, his hometown , and on October 2, 1997, he cut the ribbon at an inauguration ceremony for Lengyan Pagoda at Lengyan Temple.

Mt. Wang'er

Situated 1.5 km northeast of Xiongyue Railway Station, the hill was called Mt. Xiongyue in the Liao Dynasty.  It was called Mt.Wanghai  (Watching the Sea) in the Qing Dynasty and later changed to Wang'er (Awaiting the son) Hill after the legend that tells of a loving mother expecting her son's return from the sea.  The hill is a single rock towering 67 meters above sea level with a steep south slope.  There are stone steps on the north slope leading up to a Tibetan black brick pagoda on the top.  Also on the north side, there is a natural arch bridge.  Under the arch is a stone pavilion with stone stools and a stone chessboard.  The Wang'er Hill Park has a Loving Mother Statue, a Loving Mother Exhibition Hall and holds a Wang'er Hill Mother's Day festival every May.
