BMW Brilliance was registered in May 2003 with its manufacturing facilities located in Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province of China. As a new partner and an integral part of the Chinese automotive industry, BMW Brilliance is committed to serving the customers in China with top-notch products right from the outset. BMW Brilliance launched the BMW 3 Series in October 2003. The first model available nationwide is the premium sport saloon BMW325i that features a 2.5 litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine.
In April 2004, BMW Brilliance introduced the second model of the BMW 3 Series, BMW 318i featuring a 2.0 litre four-cylinder petrol engine.
At the end of November 2003, BMW Brilliance introduced the BMW530i, a member of the new BMW 5 Series that are only available in the international markets since July 2003. Convincingly combining aesthetic design and edge-cutting technologies, the new car is presently the most innovative premium car produced in China.
In May 2004, the BMW 520i and BMW525i, with 2.2 liter and 2.5 liter engine respectively, were launched, providing more choices for the customers with dynamic power and refined craftsmanship.
With the launch of the 5 models, BMW Brilliance has expanded its product portfolio to satisfy different customer needs. The latest statistics show that for the first 6 months of 2005, BMW Brilliance has delivered 7,034 units to customers, representing an increase of 10% compared to the same period last year (previous period: 6,389).
In March 2005, BMW Brilliance has announced numerous specification enhancements in its all Six-Cylinder model range of the BMW 5 Series including Active Steering, TV function, interior changes and a wider exterior color range. BMW 530i becomes the first locally produced car equipped with the world's innovative safety feature Active Steering. These new features offer customers improved choice and thus further broaden targeted customer groups. The new equipment applies to the BMW 530i, BMW 525i, and BMW 520i. There are now 6 models of the BMW 5 series available to customers.
The Shenyang plant was officially opened on May 20, 2004, which marks the completion of the phase I construction and sets a new milestone for BMW's development in China.
According to BMW's quality audit of its BMW-brand production plants in 2004, the Shenyang plant consistently meets BMW's high standards, specifically in regard to the production process, quality control and advanced technology systems.
Currently, around 2,000 employees are working in the Shenyang Plant.
In the medium term, an annual production of around 30,000 BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series vehicles is planned for the Shenyang plant. Up to 2005, the total investment into the joint venture will reach 450 million euros (RMB 4.5 billion).
