Reorganizing the assets of the original three big machine tool manafacturers in Shenyang in December, 1995, Shenyang Machine Tool (Group) Co., Ltd (SMTCL) was founded with main production bases located in Shenyang Kunming of China and Ashersleben of Germany. In 2004, the output and sales of machine tools have broken through 50,000 sets, among which 6000 sets are CNC machine tools. The output and sales of machine tools have always been at the first place in the same industry for many years in domestic market.

The leading products of the company are metal cutting machine tools which can be divided into two big categories: one is CNC machine tools, including CNC lathers, CNC milling & boring machines, vertical machining centers, horizontal machining centers, Ganty-type machining centers, CNC drilling machines, heavyt-duty & large-centering machines, various CNC special-purpose machine tools and CNC turrets etc. The other is conventional machine tools, including universal lathes, radial drilling machines, horizontal boring machines, multi-axis automatic lathes, various universal special-purpose machines and machine atachments. In total, there are tup to more than 300 varieties and over thousands of specifications available for selection. The machine tools of SMTCL, not only have occupied the market in China, but also have been exported to more than 80 foreign countries and regions.

Nowadays, the medium-to-high grade CNC machine tools have been entering into the core manufacturing fields of key industries in batches, such as automobile industry, national-defence industry, aerospace industry and rail transportation industry. During the tenth Five-Year Plan of the State, SMTCL obtained three projects of Key Technologies R & D Programme in machine tool industry. The CNC machine tools developed by the company, such as the production line used for machining railway beam of Shanghai magnetic aerotrains have caught up with the international advanced level; The CNC machine tools produced by Shenyang No. 1 Machine Tool Works were awarded as "Famous-brand Products of China" in 2004. After reorganizing of Yunnan CY Group Co., Ltd. which has always been titled with "Golden metal export base of China", SMTCL merged SCHIESS, a German heavy-duty machine tool builder with a history of 140 years, which symbolize that the company has begun to step into the rails of internationalized management.
